Case Notes:

Ms Sue Ward wears the Australian Defence Medal for service in the Australian Defence Force, and has been awarded two other Federal medals for her community service, however her medals array is spoiled by the inclusion of an unauthorised medal.

The medals she wears are:

Australian Sports medal
National Medal
Australian Defence Medal
United Nations Year of the Volunteer Medal A non authorised Medal

The United Nations Year of the Volunteer medal is not authorised to be worn. Here is the Governor General's list that contains approvals for wearing all foreign awards, including United Nations awards:

The International Year of the Volunteer medal is not listed, and must not be worn on the left breast with Australian Federal medals. If presented to an individual by a Volunteer organization it may be worn on the right breast.

The wearing of this medal on the left breast, by Australian volunteers is prevalent, and does not comply with Australian tradition and protocol. ANZMI will publish details of all those who wear this medal on their left breast.

Hence, we have found a position for Ms Sue Ward who is a volunteering doyen of the Ipswich area of Queensland. There are already International Year of Volunteer medal wearers included in our library and we have plenty of space for all those who will follow.
