Ross 1 2

The above photo of Ross was taken at the Cannon Hill RSL 2016 Dawn Service, with his campaign medals proudly displayed.

Ross joined the Australian Army as a volunteer and served a significant amount of time in Vietnam, 594 days in fact. This is an impressive period of service, and for that service he can be justifiably proud, just like the many others who saw active service.

Ross 2

Ross, however, cannot be proud of the fact he has attached a commemorative, or as commonly known, a ‘tin medal’, to his Service medals. Doing such may impress those that do not know, however, you do not fool your fellow veterans.

Ross 3

The Front Line Service Medal was issued by the 2/12 Battalion Association to identify those who took part in World War Two front line actions with the Infantry, differentiating them from other units.

Defence Honours and Awards has this to say about such medals:

“A relatively recent phenomenon medal world is the appearance of a wide variety of non-official medals, generally referred to as ‘private commemoratives’ but also called ‘tinnies’. A non-official medal is any medal that is not listed in the Order of Wearing of Australian Honours and Awards, which was published in the Commonwealth of Australia Gazette Special No. S.101 of 4 April 2002.

Medals not listed in the order of wear may be worn officially, on an unrestricted basis, only with the express permission of the Governor-General. As a general rule, such permission is extended only to official awards of foreign governments. It has never been extended to private commemorative medals. Those medals should not be worn at all, and certainly never on the left hand side and mounted with officially issued medals”.

Over the years this policy has appeared to relax a little, with commemorative medals being worn on the right hand side of civilian clothing, and if Ross were to wear this thing, that is where it should be.

Ross has deliberately flouted Government policy in order to give himself just that little more recognition and set himself apart from other Veterans. What he does not seem to understand is that he does not need that piece of ‘tin’ to show his ‘front line’ service as that has been adequately recognised by the Infantry Combat Badge he also wears on his suit.

Stuart Alban Ross, your Vietnam service has earned you the medals that you can be proud to wear, however, by adding a worthless commemorative medal, you have earned yourself a place on the ever-increasing parade numbers on the ANZMI site.

Case Notes:

Robert S Rumble of Takanini, Auckland New Zealand claims to have been almost skewered by a hot metal rod that sliced a very neat round hole in his ceiling and scorched through his bed clothes millimeters from his head after smashing roof tiles. In subsequent newspaper articles Rumbled claimed to be unperturbed about the experience because he was, after all, an ex Trooper of the Australian Special Air Service Regiment (SASR)

Notice in the photo above his head is the very neat round hole in the ceiling that the projectile is supposed to have sliced through.

Rumble had some interesting comments to give to the reporter:

We believe that Rumble’s statement about his near death experience is as dodgy as the Military service he claims. We can’t prove he staged his “near death experience” but we can prove that he has lied about, and grossly exaggerated his military service.

Robert S Rumble:

Has never served with the Australian Special Air Service Regiment (SASR).

Has never fought in five wars.

Has never been shot at and wounded whilst on military service.

He did serve in the Australian Army as a National Serviceman from Sep 1965 to October 1967, then enlisted into the Regular Army on 5 Oct 1967 then after some serious offences both military and civil was discharged at his own request on 21 Apr 1969.  After initial training he was allocated to The Corp of Royal Australian Engineers and posted to 22 Construction Squadron, Perth WA as a Carpenter and Joiner.  From Jun 1966 until Dec 1966 he was posted overseas to Borneo with 17 Construction Squadron who were deployed with the FAR Eastern Land Forces (FARELF) British Command Force as a Plant Operator. On return to Australia he was employed as a Field Engineer and then a Driver prior to his discharge.

Rumble has a history of lying about his Military service going back for twenty years at that time he was trying out as an observer aboard the NZ Coastguard Helicopter Patrol, the pilot happened to be a Vietnam Veteran and after seeing the newspaper article has advised as follows:

“started to give him the standard crew brief when he reached into the briefcase

he was carrying and pulled out a wooden box. He opened it and inside was a

medal rack comprising a mix of Borneo, SVN and Aust service medals and separate

from that a Military Medal in an envelope. He asked me if I knew what they

were. I said 'tell me'.

He went on to relate how he served in Borneo with the Royal Aust Engineers (and he seemed to know a bit about Borneo) and also in SVN where he said he was the driver for the Comd of AUSTFORCE Vietnam based in Saigon before he was seconded to the Aust Army Training Team Vietnam. He then went on to relate how he had been awarded the Military Medal (can't remember whether he said for an action in Borneo or Vietnam) but that he only received it only a few weeks ago when it arrived by post. By this time I had had enough and called the rest of the crew together and did the afternoon flight. If I recall we made it back to Ardmore low level following the Clevedon River with all its twists and turns just so I could observe our super hero in action. He was white knuckle most of the time. I never saw him again. It transpired that one of my crew had told him my background and this may of contributed to his sudden departure”.

We believe that Rumble orchestrated the events leading to the newspaper article that allowed him to “spruik” about his false military history. “The rod smashed through his roof shattering nine tiles then through the ceiling and then straight through his bed scorching the bed clothes as it went”.  What a load of codswallop.

We don’t know for sure whether the metal rod incident was dreamed up and stage managed by Rumble but we do know that he has comprehensively lied about his military history on more than one occasion and that makes him a liar, fraud and a wannabe.

Robert S Rumble welcome to our web site.

"He who lets the sea lull him into a sense of security is in very grave danger."
-Hammond Ines

Here is the story of ‘Captain’ Terrance Ernest Russell, JP of the Cairns Region in North Queensland. The good captain cuts a fine figure and looks all the world like at distinguished Officer in the Royal Australian Navy (RAN). This nautical nincompoop is nothing more than a desperate wannabe who improperly wears the uniform of a Naval Officer, and claims to have war service with the Royal Navy (RN) and sea service with the RAN.

The astute reader will note that Russell is wearing the summer uniform with the rank of Captain, upon closer examination you may note a silver ‘Australia’ on the first ring of his shoulder board. Hard to see, yes, but for those in the know it should be readily recognisable. This small and seemingly obscure ‘device’ is critical in this case as will be detailed in the following paragraphs.

Just who is Terrance Ernest Russell?

The real Terrance Ernest Russell is originally from the United Kingdom where he worked for the cruise ship company P&O. During his tenure with P&O he reached the company rank of Staff Captain, in naval parlance that means Executive Officer or 2IC. We are reliably informed that Russell’s employment with P&O was terminated in the mid 1980’s and he left under less than favourable terms.

At no time during his time with P&O did he command a ship at sea, other than to perform routine bridge duty.

Russell did serve as an officer in the Royal Naval Reserve (RNR) where he reached the rank of Lieutenant Commander (LCDR).

Russell first makes an appearance in Australia not long after his departure from P&O and began ingratiating himself with the naval community in Cairns. Initially taken at his word, it soon became apparent that things were not quite right with the good captain, particularly when he opened his Marriage Celebrate business and plastered the website with images of himself wearing RAN Captains uniform.

Russell was challenged about his use of the term ‘Captain’, and wearing the RAN uniform. His reply was as follows:

‘…My service was with the P&O Company for 30 years and as you would probably know Queen Victoria gave the P&O the same insignia as the Navy.

I served with the Royal Navy for many years as a reservist but only got called up once by Thatcher to go to the Falklands in 1982. By the time I got there it was virtually done.

I have had the privilege (sic) of serving both with the RAN and the USN (COMDESRON 37) during my time.

Hope this is of interest to your enquirer

Best wishes

Captain Terry Russell, FAIM AFNI MLAANZ RNR (Ret'd) JP"…’

Note he signs of as ‘Captain Terry Russell, RNR’. We know this is a fabrication as he did not attain the rank of Captain in the RNR. We also know that he has never served in any capacity with the RAN or US Navy (USN).

He notes in his reply that Queen Victoria no less gave P&O the same uniform as the navy. Looking at the images printed above, we are sure the reader can tell the difference between a RAN Officer and a P&O Ships Officer.

Indeed, the Royal Naval Association in the UK advises us:

‘…although P&O Officers wear a similar uniform and cap as a Royal Naval officer, the cap badge and rank & shoulder-board stripes are different. At a glance they are similar enough to look the same. Queen Victoria did not give them the same insignia.’

Russell’s experience in the Falkland’s War is sketchy at best. He mentions that ‘I served with the Royal Navy for many years as a reservist but only got called up once by Thatcher to go to the Falklands in 1982. By the time I got there it was virtually done’.

We know he did not serve onboard SS Canberra as he does not appear on the civilian or service nominal roll. He wears no medals or other devises which might suggest war service. Given the time line and history available to us, it is doubtful he served in the Falklands War in any capacity.

We are advised that the actions of Russell have been brought to the attention of the Navy and the Australian Federal Police. It would appear that Russell was spoken too and has agreed to remove the images of himself in the uniform of a RAN Captain from his website, LinkedIn and Facebook sites. In return, it appears no further formal action is to be taken against him. This is indeed a shame as he is committing a number of offences by impersonating a government official.

Terrence Russell is also a qualified Justice of the Peace in Queensland. Given that he has in the past deceived everyone by wearing the uniform of a RAN Captain, and using the rank of Captain in correspondence, it must be asked, is Terrence Russell a fit and proper person to retain his JP status?

Terrence Russell would've been fully aware that what he was doing is wrong but such is his arrogance he thought he could get away with it. Had he not been caught out and his stories tested and found wanting, he would have continued to pretend to be a Captain, and a RAN Captain at that! He is nothing more than a fraud and a despicable wannabe and deserving of a place on this website.

Terrance Ernest Russell - Update 28 March 2015

There is an old saying that involves leopards and spots which is eminently suitable for the continuing antics of ‘Captain’ Terry Russell. Following his unmasking by ANZMI, Russell removed images of himself in an RAN Captain’s uniform from his own website, as well as both his Facebook and LinkedIn accounts. And we naturally assumed that he had mended his ways and we could move on.

Unfortunately, ‘Captain’ Russell is at it again! This time, once again looking like an extra from ‘South Pacific’, he pops up on the website of the curiously named organisation, the National Academy of Etiquette which it seems Russell has established. www.nationalacademyofetiquette.com.au/about.html And flying proudly at its masthead is Terry Russell once again in the guise of an RAN Captain.

One of the definitions of ‘etiquette’ is “the customs or rules governing behaviour regarded as correct or acceptable in social or official life”. Seems as if ‘Captain’ Terry himself might need to take one of the courses offered on his own website! Then again, he would struggle to pass the course.

Case Notes:

Michel Ruurda aka Johnson aka Jones of Woody Point in Queensland is a wannabe, fraudster and a bully.  We believe  he is currently using the name Michel JONES.

Ruurda has had no military service whatsoever and yet he tells stories of his time with the elite Australian Special Air Service Regiment (SASR), here are some examples:

"He was a Sniper in the SAS and didn’t like to talk about it much. When he was in Afghanistan  they were overlooking a McDonalds Restaurant and were positioned to shoot anyone they felt was a threat. He stated he only had to shoot once then.

He was based in Bosnia working in Sarajevo. She was working with NATO at the time. His division which was a part of Secret Operations Logistics Squadron had just been established and as a result they required snipers who had trained at, “Sniper school.” He stated that he killed many men women and children for his country.  However he wasn’t weak so didn’t require any pension or after care

Whilst in Bosnia he stayed in an area called sniper alley where there was continuous fire fights between the snipers. He stated that his wife was their commander (from NATO) and would send them on secret mercenary type missions. When  asked  to clarify as things didn’t make sense  (eg. Sniper school and collation with NATO) he became angry and said I was bringing the bad out in him and he doesn’t want to relive it as it was fourteen years ago."

When asked why he used the name "Johnson"  he said.

"The army had given them many names and birth certificates  in case they needed to ever disappear".

We can report that Ruurda did visit Sarajevo in 2005 but only to have lunch with his civilian wife who was working with NATO.  The lunch in the NATO Officers'  Mess is the sum total of his military service.

Ruurda  uses his lunatic military stories to charm vulnerable women and if  his "Military Service" is ever questioned he resorts to threats and violence. He has said;

"He knows how to bleed people out and torture people due to his training".

Ruurda has other skeletons in the closet. Before he was an "SASR Sniper", he would have required a few  years normal army service then at least another year to complete the SASR acceptance and training cycle.  This would mean to have been a Sniper in Bosnia in 2005 he would have had to have been a soldier since at the very least 2002, however the Australian Securities and Investment Commission (ASIC) were busy applying a lifetime ban from Financial Investment work during that period.  He was found guilty of fraud in 2004 that related to crimes between the period 2002 and 2004.  Here is the evidence:

Michel Ruurda aka Johnson aka Jones is a liar wannabe and fraudster who is known  also as a bully. He is a pathological liar and cannot be trusted with other peoples property.

You can tell when he is lying because his lips are moving.

People like Ruurda who have never served yet claim to have been a Special Forces Soldier are most welcome to our web site and we hope that Ruurda enjoys his infamy.

Normally media articles are not the complete story here on the cases pages, however in this case we have made an exception as the Herald Sun have done an excellent job and are still following through on this case.  As more is printed in the media this page will be upgraded.   Read all about this hero and then if you feel the desire please contact the Herald Sun and let them know your feelings towards this hero and others you may know of that fit the same mould.   There are thousands of them out there and they all need exposure, heavy fines and a stint in jail in accordance with the laws that are in place but rarely used.

Make believe: Shane Ryan.
Picture: Bill McAuley Herald Sun

and there you see him.  This Walter Mitty hero who has now admitted to bogus civilian bravery awards, has in his possession stolen Miliary medals and has admitted to impersonating a war veteran.   All of the above are Federal offences and we will see just how they pan out.

Maybe because the Royal Humane Society are pursuing this there may be charges laid against him for the awards he received from the society but we guess that the Government and Federal police again will ignore the crimes committed against the Defence Act 1903.  To date they have not acted on any of the offences we have offered to them and we have provided all information required to obtain a conviction.  One of these also includes a convicted paedophile, possibly using his bogus Army uniform to enter schools to tell war stories, which they have completely ignored.

Shane Ryan, the hero, is not finished with yet.  If you have information pertaining to his Military Service we would like you to contact us.  He may also be in receipt of fraudulent DVA disability payments that you are aware of.  We need to know if he is. The Herald Sun has also published more articles on this villain.  Well done Herald Sun.  Keep the information on these bogus hero's in the public forum.

Shane Ryan Update. He is at it again.

Ryan is to appear in the Frankston Magistrates Court, Melbourne on the 20 December 2013. He failed to appear for his first "appointment" and a warrant was issued for his arrest. Since then he has had two "appointments" the last being on the 28th October 2013, when his Defence Solicitor requested an adjournment.

The State Prosecution advised that the Commonwealth Department of Public Prosecutions were taking over to prosecute the charge of "Obtain by deception". The Magistrate extended Ryan's bail and ordered him to reappear on 20th December 2013.

Ryan is a "rat cunning" recidivist, intent on creating a fictitious, glorious military career for his posterity. The last bout we had with Ryan was in 2004 which is detailed above.

We have been pursuing Ryan on this current matter since June 2012. After concluding our investigation in late 2012 we became aware of others with an interest in Ryan and put finalization of our case on hold, so as not to jeopardise pending legal action.

The matter came to our attention when a Rhodesian Army Association advised us that Ryan had applied to join their organisation, and to support his application had produced United Kingdom (UK) Ministry of Defence (MOD) documents.

When we approached Ryan about the documents he confidently advised that the documents were genuine. We believed that the documents were genuine, in that they had emanated from the UK MOD; however we knew that the information shown of the documents was false.

As the UK Ministry of Defence do not release information of any kind we were temporarily "stumped". However whilst our questions to the UK MOD were not answered, we believe our allegations were sufficient for the MOD to raise questions about the matter and apparently advise Australian authorities.

Below is email traffic concerning the UK MOD between Ryan and ANZMI when our investigation commenced.

24/6/12

Dear Mr Shane Ryan

I do independent research for various organisations and specialise in Defence personnel. Have been tasked by the UK Ministry of Defence in relation to forged documents bearing your name that they hold. Apparently the documents were used to seek membership of the Rhodesian Services Association located in New Zealand. Perhaps this matter can be resolved in the preliminary stages by a simple explanation from yourself? I always approach these matters from an independent point of view and, as am very busy with more important matters, would like to wrap up this matter quickly.

Sincerely

Sir 24/6/12

I am unable to open your attachment so ccn (sic) offer no comment. As any document I may or may not have sent to the Association to which you refer came originally from the MOD. your claim to be investigating on MOD's behalf is of interest. I have therefore forwarded your email to the CO MOD for their appropriate attention.

Regards

Dear Mr Ryan 24/6/2012

As you can not open the document, do you want me to send it to you in another form so that you can forward it to the CO of MOD? If you are unable to work with me in this matter will proceed without your input.

Sincerely
24/6/12

Thank you MOD have your orginal sic), email I am sure they will be in touch. The two documents sent to that Association were originated by MOD, who have advised me they haven't (sic) heard of you. I have been asked to forward any communications from you to MOD

Regards Shane

Mr Ryan 24/6/2012

No problem, please keep MoD in the loop, I will be phoning them when they open tomorrow. Most Australian retired Army Officers are happy to discuss their Service History. Would you be amenable to discuss yours?. Particularly your experiences in Rhodesia.

Regards

Dear Mr Ryan 27/6/12

You are invited to comment on the following. An investigation has been conducted into your claims of Service in Rhodesia as an Australian Army Infantry Officer and it is believed that your claims are false and that you have forged United Kingdom Ministry of Defence Documents. Should you choose to not comment, this information will be forwarded to Australian and United Kingdom law enforcement authorities, United Kingdom Ministry of Defence, Australian media, and the Australian Veterans organization ANZMI on the 4 July 2012.

Sincerely

Mr xxxxx

You appear to have made your mind up on this matter. I feel it best MOD anwser (sic)you allegation, as I doubt any comment I may offer will satisfy (sic) you, the letter are genuine, I have asked MOD to confirm that fact to you.

We have copies of the documents mentioned above but will hold them until after the Court Hearing.

At some time between June 2012 and June 2013, the Frankston Returned Services League (RSL) became involved in the prosecution, after the court case we will be able to

publish Frankston RSL's involvement in the matter.

Ryan has attempted many planned gambits in his quest for false fame, however on each occasion he has been thwarted. He was a failed Army Reserve Officer.

He is however a very successful and confirmed fraud, liar and wannabe.
